The scholarship is in partnership with the SouthCoast Community Foundation and was created to honor the memory of BankFive’s late presidents and CEOs. It’s awarded with consideration of either academic achievement or financial need and is renewable each year the student is enrolled full time and meets eligibility requirements. Since its founding, BankFive has given out a total of $160,000 in scholarships.
Daponte was awarded the scholarship at the SouthCoast Community Foundation’s 2026 Scholarship Awards ceremony at UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, June 2nd.
“Congratulations Lillian on this outstanding achievement," said Anne P. Tangen, BankFive president and CEO. “BankFive’s Presidential Scholarship Fund is a true reflection of the bank’s mission to invest in our local communities, and what better way to do this than to invest in students’ bright educational futures.”
At Tuesday’s ceremony, more than $900,000 in scholarships was given to 124 local students in partnership with the SouthCoast Community Foundation. The ceremony celebrated these student accomplishments and the donors whose support makes this possible.
“Each year, the SouthCoast Community Foundation is thrilled to offer local students scholarships to continue their higher education journeys," said Dr. Melanie Edwards-Tavares, SouthCoast Community Foundation president and CEO. “We are grateful for our partners, such as BankFive, who are dedicated to giving back to the community they serve by investing in students' academic and professional futures.”
