It's hard to believe that another year has whizzed by. 2016 may be a blur in your mind at this point, but now's a good time to step back and assess what you did and didn't accomplish over the past 12 months.
- Did you meet your financial goals for the year? Maybe it was saving for a new home or car. Or perhaps you were putting money aside for your child's college education. Whatever your financial purpose(s) you had in mind, here's your opportunity to put it all in perspective.
- What does your retirement portfolio look like a year later? Did you put enough money aside in 2016 to make a meaningful difference for your future?
- Did you find that your insurance coverage was adequate, whether it was health, property, liability, business, or other insurance?
- Are you where you want to be health-wise? Did you succeed at accomplishing weight loss and/or exercise goals that you established at the beginning of the year?
- Did you meet any career objectives that you had for yourself in 2016?
- Were you able to strike an acceptable balance between work life and personal life? Or did you find yourself being pulled in one direction more than the other?
- Have you met any other resolutions or objectives that you came up with last January, like learning how to surf (cowabunga!), whipping up gourmet meals for friends and family, or being more of a handyman around the house?
If you didn't quite get where you wanted to be in 2016, the good news is that you have a whole new year to take on those challenges where you missed your mark. And you may want to add some more goals in 2017. Whatever you choose to do, here's hoping that the New Year is your best year ever!
