In 1981, Paul Silva took over ownership of Regal Floor Covering after its original owner put the business up for sale. With his experience as an installer, Paul saw what a huge opportunity the business could provide. Forty-four years later, Regal Floor Covering remains in the Silva family’s hands, with Paul’s son Jordan taking over as President in 2025.
Jordan has a long history of helping with the business. He started working with the installers during school breaks at a young age. As he got older, he wanted to learn more about estimating, project management, and the other various aspects of the business. After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Rhode Island College, Jordan took the plunge and joined the business full time. “I learned from the best and have been fortunate to have my father’s knowledge and guidance along the way,” Jordan says. Although Paul is still involved in some aspects of the business, Jordan has been running most of the day-to-day operations at Regal for over 15 years.
Located in the heart of Fall River, Regal Floor Covering has commercial customers across Massachusetts and Rhode Island ranging from healthcare facilities to hotels, and everything in between. They also do residential flooring work. Jordan says that although they do invest in advertising, word of mouth and repeat customers is what keeps their business going. Having been around for over 80 years, Regal’s reputation speaks for itself. They believe in ensuring that the customer is always satisfied, which ultimately keeps customers coming back.
Regal Floor Covering currently has 20 full-time employees, many of whom have been at the company since Jordan was young. From project managers to warehouse managers, multiple employees have been with the business for close to forty years. Jordan says they create a family atmosphere. “We take care of our employees and they take care of us. I care deeply for not only my employees, but their families as well,” he says.
Born and raised in Swansea, Jordan doesn’t hesitate to give back to the local community through his business as well as personally. He has sat on the Presidents Council at SouthCoast Health for over 16 years. “This community is very near and dear to us. It’s been our home for a long time,” he says. From youth sports coaching and sponsorships to local donations, Jordan knows the value of giving back to the community that has supported his family business for decades.
Jordan’s advice to small business owners is easy: surround yourself with good people. “You’re only as good as the people you surround yourself with. Regal wouldn’t be where it is today without our dedicated, hardworking employees. You have to wear many hats as a business owner, but having a team like ours certainly makes my job easier.”
Jordan says that one of the biggest challenges currently facing his industry is a lack of young people joining the trade. Despite these challenges, 2024 proved to be one of Regal’s best years. “Any project we take on big or small, we’re handling them with the team we have,” he explained.
Jordan is hopeful that continued business development in Fall River and the recent completion of the MBTA South Coast Commuter Rail will lead to increased business opportunities for Regal in the coming years. Although Jordan has no plans of forcing his teenage sons into anything, he has been introducing them to the ins and outs of the family business, just as he was. “My father has the opportunity to see his hard work and dedication over many years come to fruition. I hope to be able to instill the same values and dedication in my sons, like my father did with me,” Jordan says.
